Aloo Gosht / Meat & Potato Curry Recipe

My first meat recipe on this blog! I am sharing with you the easiest & quick way to prepare this rich & famous meat & potato curry dish of India & Pakistan. Try this flavorful recipe of meat with potatoes for excellent aroma and taste, you can try it with chicken or lamb whatever you like. Meat is the only choice in my house. Trust me, on this one, if you want a recipe your family will love, this is it! My friends love eating this dish when I make it for dinner. It is one of the highly demanded meal from the day I have learned how to cook & I try to cook this family friendly meal at-least once in a week. 

You can also use eggplant, drumsticks or masoor dal for extra twist in your recipe, but we prefer this without. Potato meat curry or Aloo gosht takes time to cook so keep patience while making this meal. By the time, you can prepare steam rice & cucumber salad!! You can throw peppers or garlic cloves while the meat is cooking for extra boost in flavors.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
Serves: 3-4 persons

Ingredients: Aloo gosht / Meat & Potato curry Masala
2 tablespoon Coriander powder
2 tablespoon Red chili powder
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon ginger powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper powder
1 teaspoon cardamom powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 Bay leaf
4-5 Gloves 

Method:
  • In a pan, dry roast 2 tablespoon Coriander powder, 2 tablespoon Red chili powder, 1 tablespoon turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon ginger powder, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon black pepper powder, 1 teaspoon cardamom powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder, 1 Bay leaf and 4-5 Gloves for 1 minutes until fragrant & keep it aside to cool down. 
  • Now, grind this roasted masala into a fine powder & store it in a air-tight jar. Use it as required.

Ingredients: Aloo gosht / Meat & Potato Curry Recipe
5-8 pieces of washed and chopped meat
1 medium peeled and chopped potatoes
1 medium thinly sliced onion
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon garlic paste
1 cup whisk yogurt, avoid sour yogurt for better taste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Salt to taste
2 tablespoon chopped cilantro or coriander leaves

Method: 
Step 1
Marination:
In a bowl, add washed and chopped mutton, 1 tablespoon ginger paste, 1 tablespoon garlic paste, home-made mutton masala powder and 1 cup whisk yogurt. Mix and leave it overnight in refrigerator. I have made this recipe without adding tenderizer. but you can add half teaspoon of meat tenderizer if you want to cut down your cooking time. 

Step 2
  • In a deep pan, heat cooking oil, add thinly 1 medium sliced onions and fry until they turn gold brown.
  • Add marinated meat mixture and peeled, chopped potatoes. Mix and cook on a low flame for 5 minutes. Add 4 cups of water in a proportion that it is enough to cover the meat and potatoes, stir and add salt to taste. Cook for 1 hour under low-medium flame till meat turns soft and tender. Add water when needed. 
  • Garnish with 1 teaspoon chopped cilantro or coriander leaves and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Enjoy eating with roti and steamed rice. 
You can cook it with different spices like white cumin powder, black cumin, green coriander, green chilies, red chilies or all spice. 

You can put tomato puree for adding different taste in this meal. This is the most simple, quick yet tasty meat aloo masala curry dish I have tried to make & share with you. Hope you & your family enjoy's it at home.
