This is the most beloved thing for VEG eaters!!! Potatoes are said to be the hearty vegetable for everyone who hasn't tasted meat yet. People like me, always look after this versatile veggie when nothing is available in kitchen. Be it curry, fried goodies, for stuffing or simply mashed potatoes - the generous amount of it brings life and happiness to the dinner table. Little did I know that McDonald french fries would add gleam and sparkle in my eyes and two fold my love for potatoes. I would always fly like butterfly whenever am nearby the outlet of McDonald, its light and crispy french fries has always captured my attention.
Karachi, a city known for their love of food and my in-laws is no exception, people are hard core lovers of non veg food - be it in breakfast, snacking or lunch and dinner. From egg omelette to bun kebabs and variety of barbecue dishes they are surprisingly crazy for everything, Oh! how can I forget biryani.... Into all these tempting and flavorful foods one eatable has always marked its presence and were available at every nook and corner - yes, it is french fries. In Mumbai, french fries were readily available only at McDonald or KFC outlets but this place was totally amazing. Because, wherever I turn around I can find a delightful snack topped with a dash of green chutney all over it. Of course, chutneys give that desi touch on western food in order to satisfy our taste buds! What can be better than a street food loaded with french fries that cost you a penny!
As 2018 has come to an end, I thought to share a recipe of potato french fries which is close to my heart. A meatless recipe that is perfect for quick food makers. You can also check our french fries food vlog that showcases the branded french fries outlets I enjoy eating in Kaaarachi.
Garlic Potato French Fries
Preparation Time: 35 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Servings: 2 persons
Ingredients:
2 large potatoes, rinsed well
4 cups chilled water
1-2 cups of corn flour, coating
1-2 cup Oil, deep frying
1 teaspoon, garlic powder
Salt to taste
Method:
- Firstly get rid of excess starch for crispy and crunchy bites. For this, rinse, peel and cut the potatoes with the help of mandoline slicer to form a french fries shape. Once done, soak them in cold water for at least 25 minutes.
- Drain all the water and place the potatoes onto the paper towels. The more they will dry, the more better they will become.
- Now sprinkle corn flour and coat all of them properly.
- Throw them in oil and deep fry until they become crispy and nicely cooked.
- Remove on absorbent paper and sprinkle little salt and garlic powder.
- Serve them straight away with tomato ketchup and mayonnaise. if you are a cheese lover then grate cheese all over it and sprinkle some oregano. Enjoy your last day of 2018 with a bowl full of french fries, good movie and don't forget to share food, love and happiness with your loved ones!
